Chris and I have always been fans of the hand-crafted cocktail. Once upon a time, we would make Saturday all about fine food and drinks. While drinking coffee in the morning, we would plan our coursed meal for the upcoming evening with a basset on our lap. Clams casino would pair nicely with a dry J Sparkling Wine, and the sweet potato galette would be perfect with the Kholer Riesling! Sweet memories we have, but those days are over! (At least for now.) Though our Saturdays are much different now, we wouldn’t change a thing. After all, we are creating even sweeter ones.
On occasion, I’ll surprise Chris with some love in a glass to remind us that yes, we are more than just parents. There’s nothing better than a specialty cocktail before a home cooked meal with our new little family. This whiskey sour is one of our favorites. It has 279 calories per glass (so worth it) and is full of fresh, healthy ingredients. If you’re looking for a new healthy cocktail recipe, look no further.
Introducing the Star Players:
Seagram’s 7 Crown is a light, smooth and mild American blended whiskey with notes of buttery vanilla and smokey apricot with herbal and honey/maple elements. If you’re making any mixed drink with whiskey, opt for a mild one like this. A whiskey like Jack Daniels will most certainly overpower this delicate cocktail with a punch in the nose, so please consider stocking your liquor cabinet with this extremely affordable option.
Amaretto diSaronno is the original amaretto liqueur. It’s distilled from the base of almonds providing an intense almond flavor. Sweet and mild enough to sip on its own over ice, this liquor adds a natural sweetness to the skinny citrus whiskey sour.
Our skinny citrus whiskey sour is also made with freshly squeezed lemons and Cara Cara oranges, a type of navel orange grown in the San Joaquin Valley of California (they are available from December through April). Truly, they are the best oranges I have ever tasted. If you’ve yet to try them, put it on your bucket list.
The time it takes to make an extraordinary cocktail is worth the effort. No artificial syrups or mixes here! Fresh ingredients make a libation noteworthy and much healthier.
Enjoy mindfully preparing this hand-crafted cocktail and savoring each sip.
Notice the aroma before tasting each drink, let it linger in your mouth a bit before swallowing. These acts will actually heighten your enjoyment. And remember, all is fair in moderation…don’t go overboard!
So save the recipe and plan to make this weekend a special one. Enjoy!
